Snowstorms Coming Means An Early Start To Ski Season

The low nighttime temperatures in Colorado mountain towns have been good for snow making conditions at the ski resorts. Also, three snowstorms are forecasted over the next 10 days. The storms are projecting large snow accumulations to Colorado ski area bases ahead of nearing opening dates at Arapahoe Basin, Loveland and Keystone, and weather dependent Wolf Creek. The ski resorts will start rolling out chair lifts for skiers and snowboarders as soon as possible and will update their website with opening dates accordingly.

The ECMWF and GS models are both forecasting snow in Colorado during the next 10 days, with the largest accumulation totals in the northern mountains, West Elks of the central mountains, and western San Juan Mountains in the southern mountains. Between 8-14 inches of snow is possible from the weather systems currently forecasted in the coming days. An early start to the ski season also means more drivers on the icy or snowy roads.
