On Slope Altercation at Keystone

Whether it is the lack of fresh powder or the traffic on I-70, skiers and snowboarders seem to be more hostile on the slopes than in year’s past. Most recently, an on-slope collision at Keystone resulted in assault allegations against one of the parties.

After two skiers collided on a run at Keystone skier, the male skier who collided with a female skier tried to leave the scene. The woman’s husband attempted to stop the male skier until ski patrol arrived. The husband inadvertently bumped into the man resulting in the man accusing the husband of assault. Multiple witnesses confirm that no assault had transpired and no injuries were reported.

The Colorado Skier Safety Act sets forth the responsibility code for skiers and snowboarders that are involved in a collision or incident on the slopes. The Skier Safety Act requires skiers and snowboarders to exchange contact information with each other and a ski area employee. Failure to follow these rules can result in various consequences and are considered when determining damages sought in civil court.
